Electric clippers, normally used for shearing cattle and horses, are suitable for use in the carpet testing laboratory for shearing the pile from the carpet to determine pile weight and pile height. The high speed clipper has two speeds, 2600 and 2900 double strokes per minute, selected by the three position On/Off switch. The clipper is supplied with the 31/15 blade set. The two comb- shaped blades are the cutting tool. The lower blade is fixed and attached to the housing, while the top blade is agitated crossways. The clipping pressure between the blades can be adjusted.

DownloadAccessories for manually checking carpet tuft length.
Test Method
The apparatus consists of a Tuft Length Block, a Perspex block with V-shape grooves, glass rods and metal ruler.
At least 20 tufts are removed from the sample. The individual tufts are straightened and placed in the appropriate groove. The glass rod is placed over the tuft and the length is measured using the ruler.

Carpet Tuft Length Measurement LFT2021 (pdf)
DownloadCarpet is subjected to a wide variety of testing during everyday wear and tear. To ensure continued high performance colourfastness is critical to the appearance of a carpet. Using the Wira Test Kit, it is possible to determine the fastness of a carpetʼs colour against standard grey scales and using adjacent fabric.
Test Method
The test is carried out with a carpet specimen in contact with the specified adjacent fabric under pressure and immersed in water. The colour change and staining are assessed against grey scales. The kit is comprised of a perspirometer with perspex plates and weight, oven, 10m multifibre fabric and grey scales.
Key Features
✔ Perspirometer with plates
✔ Proven test method
✔ Oven
✔ Multifibre Fabric
✔ Grey Scales

DownloadThe Wira Dimensional Stability Test Apparatus provides the necessary equipment to determine the dimensional changes due to the effects of varied water and heat conditions. The test method is applicable to both carpets and tiles.
Test Method
The specimens are conditioned before the initial measurements are taken. The samples are then placed in an oven at 60°C for a period of time before removing and performing measurements again. The samples are next immersed in water at 20°C, removed and measured. The samples are again placed in the oven, removed and measured before reconditioning and performing the final measurements.
The apparatus includes:
- TSG:001 for measuring the dimensions of the specimen
- Oven
- Water Container
Key Features
✔ Conforms to industry standards
✔ Two models available to suit sample size
✔ Can be used to test both carpets and tiles
✔ Accurate results

Dimensional Stability Test LFT2021 (pdf)
DownloadThe electrostatic properties are an important factor for textile floorcoverings and one factor that can be measured is the surface and vertical resistivity.
Test Method
To measure the surface resistivity the specimen is placed on an insulating plate, which is located on an earthed metal plate. Two electrodes are placed on the surface of the specimen and the resistance is measured between the electrodes at the nominal test voltage. To measure vertical resistance, the specimen is placed on the earthed metal plate, which is located on the insulating plate. One electrode is placed on the
surface of the specimen and the resistance is measured between the electrode and the metal plate. The apparatus can be used for on-site measurements.
